I was prompted to write this post after seeing many A110 users (as well as prospects), wandering here and there, searching for some typical and common queries/doubts. But unfortunately they are not getting actual picture. Instead of true suggestions, they fall victims of biased reviews. All popular mobile-review websites have turned into a battle field in favor of one or another brand. Such websites fail to fulfill the actual purpose for mobile users or those fellows who visit there in hope of getting help in their final purchase decision. So in this post I have tried to address Top 11 doubts/queries about Canvas2:
I feel sound/volume is low
No need to worry. If you feel so, you can easily modify it to certain extent.
For this you will need to use the Engineering Mode as follows:
- Go to your dial pad & type *#*#3646633#*#*
- Now If you have upgraded your phone then scroll on to right or if not then scroll down to hardware Testing Tab.
- Select audio then go to Loudspeaker Mode
- Now scroll down to Max Vol 0-160: By Default it is 128 & You can change it to 160 but at 150 and above i noticed it produces more noise then voice. When selected your preferred settings, click on set.
I feel touch requires some improvement
Hmmm.
If you feel so then upgrade to Jelly Bean(JB). In JB, "project-butter" is embeded. This butter-project is oriented towards smoothing touch performance. You will really feel buttery touch after an update to JB.
I feel battery backup is low
Battery backup is not poor as such. As per my experience its very normal for 5" android screen. Low battery backup may be felt by guys who have just shifted to Android platform or 5" screen.
{PS: Never install so called Battery Saving Apps from Google play or another source. They drain more juice from your battery}
{PS: Never install so called Battery Saving Apps from Google play or another source. They drain more juice from your battery}
I feel camera quality in low light is not upto mark
Yes. I do agree here. But you pick any Indian or Chinese brand having 8MP camera, performance is same or on somewhat downside in low light conditions. If you want to buy 8MP mobile for low-light photography also, with 5" display, then go for Samsung Grand without a second thought.
Is A115 (3D) a better choice?
No way. I dont think so. True 3D displays never come in that budget. Moreover camera is also trimmed down to 5mp.I want to update my phone to Jelly Bean myself
No problem in that as long as you are little bit tech-savy. You can follow this postI want to root my phone after JB update
No problem in that as long as you are little bit tech-savy. You can follow this postA110 or A116?
To be very frank I would suggest A110. There are few genuine reasons for that:
- As a normal mobile user, you would hardly find any difference between these two mobiles.
- Maximum apps are supported for both phones.
- Camera quality is better in A110. You click the pic from both the phones and then see correspondig memory of pic. More bytes are stored in A110 pics. That means more clarity on computer screen (or any other large screen)
- You may miss Quad core processor in A110 if and only if you are facing any lag in A110. I haven't felt any kind of lag on A110 so far.
- HD display is the only meant for playing HD videos and games. And a little bit improved display quality (hardly visible to layman)
- Last but not least, price difference of 5000-6000 bucks. Doesn't makes any sense for average user.
So if we see the "Money+Performance package", A110 is the clear winner. Otherwise A116 is a step ahead in specs. But that value-addition is not worth 6000 bucks.
Is there exactly equivalent mobile phone?
No, not exactly equal. But few like Lava Q800 or Karbon Titanium S1/S5 may also be there in your priority list. Many others are poping out every week.Should I go for LAVA or KARBONN like brands?
Its upto you to go for them or not. But if you see the past, Micromax has always taken the lead and it is always one step ahead of other Indian brands, whether you take the example of qerty phone or 5" android phone. Also micromax is the first Indian brand to provide the Android software update. And thats why Micromax is more trustwirthy brand as compared to other local brands.
How is Micromax customer-care?
Not bad, if not very good. Yes, I mean it. Thats another thing that they dont have HiFi customer care offices like Samsung or Nokia. For other additional queries you are most welcome. Dont hesitate to ask anything or discuss any problem related to your Canvas2.
Thanx a lot for this article cum faq
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome man.
ReplyDeleteI'm using canvas 2 for a month now..
ReplyDeletegreat device and outstanding performance...
but I do know that Micromax devices are selling in Pakistan by changing name as qmobile noir.
my question is why they are doing so?
Dear Nizam, you are enjoying your product, that's all over and out. Don't get betrayed by such things on the internet. As per my common sense, couldn't Micromax launch its product by same model and brand name in Pakistan or any other country? If Nokia, Samsung, HTC, etc can do so then why not Micromax? Do you think that Micromax doesn't want to grow/expand its business to other countries? My friend, everyone in this world wants to grow, expand and prosper. So called QmobileNoir has nothing to do with Micromax models. So be cool and enjoy your phone.
DeleteHi Fransis..great article...kudos to you!!
ReplyDeleteNeed a lil hslp from you..im planning to buy a smart phone. Price range 10k...can u pleasr suggest the best on which one to buy..micromax/ karbonn/lava?
Thanks dude. At present I see Canvas2 as a best option in that budget and in 5" segment. Below 5" other options open up like Sony Xperia(3.5") E @ 9k appx. You can also opt for Lava XOLO Q800 (4.5") @11.5K appx.
DeleteThanks for your reply..
ReplyDeletebut one thing to say...I searched qmobile noir A10 in Google..
The mobile is exactly same as canvas 2 in design and specifications too...
l request you to please check it on Google and please reply....
Yaa, you are right man. It looks same. But Micromax has nothing to do with it. Why are you so much worried about it? Leave it. And I never post anything before a requisite research work :)
DeleteHi fransis. Wanted a suggestion from you, I am confused in buying MMX canvas HD and Karbonn titanium S5. Can you please tell me which one would be a smarter choice according to you. Please do reply asap fransiss..and if you can please help me out with the current pricing fr the above phones. I highly appreciate ur help buddy.thanks a ton in advance! I will buy phone according to your decision:-)
ReplyDeleteBro both are good phones. S5 is slimmer and economical(INR 11.5K) than A116 (INR14.2K). But Canvas HD is the gainer wrt screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels as against 960 x 540 pixels of Titanium S5. And higher pixel density of 294 ppi as compared to 222 ppi of S5. (This is very slight difference). So, if you can spend Rs.3000 more for a better resolution and pixel density, you should go for Micromax A116 Canvas HD, otherwise Karbonn Titanium S5 is also a good buy. Hope I helped a lil bit.
DeletePS for all my friends here: Neither follow the crowd, nor be a part of it. Take you own decisions after defining your exact requirements and looking into your pocket.
Karbonn S2 Titanium Price is cheap and has allot many cool features....
ReplyDeletehey i wanna buy dis buy should i ? m music lovr n luv 2 click pics 2 shld i go for it or any othr prodct plzz hellppp
ReplyDeleteMusic lovers need to buy good quality headphone to enjoy the music, as those provided by Micromax are not of premium quality.
DeleteFor day light photography, camera is very good (in fact better than Canvas HD). But its not good in low light conditions.
thnx for the reply wht u say abt nokia lumia 520 is it good? i m nt a gamer i jst want a fhon for photogrphy, music, msgs, cols n whtzapp n fb onlyyy
DeleteNokia Lumia is a class in itself. There is no comparison of windows and android. As per your requirements, its a wise decision to go for it if you are happy with 4" display. But if you are an android-addict, you would find windows phone somewhat awkward and unfriendly. Take your time and go for the best as per your taste and preferences.
DeleteHello mr. Fransis,
ReplyDeletemuch impresive article and informative as well.
please suggest me the better option among the Canvas 2, Canvas 3D and karbonn titanium S5.
all of them are in almost same price range but I heard that S5 is lacking in battery back up.
kindly suggest at the earliest as I am plaaning to buy soon.
Also, one more clarification i require: in canvas 3D, internal memory is 0.93 GB and ROM is 4 GB. what's the difference in both?
Hello Friend
DeleteIf you want straight forward answer from me, then its S5. And regarding your query about battery backup, I want to say that I have hardly seen any any android phone which gives battery backup of 24+ hours, with its full functionality on. Also Quad core processor needs a little bit more power to manage its assigned functions.
I want to buy phone under 10000.I was going for Samsung Galaxy Ace s5380i but it is out of stock in flipkart. Now I am planning to buy Canvas 2 in Rs. 9999.Should I go for it.Or Micromax a89 under Rs. 6500.I will be using first time an android product. So please help me in this.
ReplyDeleteAce is a good and decent buy in 3.5" segment. But if you are a tech savvy guy, then insist for Ace 5830 (and not 5830i). Because 5830 has abundant stuff at xda forums and as cyanogenmod is also available. You would not find the same for 5830i.
DeleteA89 is very basic. So you'll loose the charm very soon. Better to avoid it as its already out of race.
Canvas2 is a self proven phone in 5" segment. Far better than A89.
But because you are going to be the first time user of android, so better to go with Ace. I am sure it'd not disappoint you in any respect.
All-d-best
Dear Fransis,
ReplyDeleteWhat About Karbonn Titanium S2?
Is it worth buying....?
the features of this phone seems to be cool but only concern with karbonn mobile is there battery back up. I heard that battery back up of previous titanium range (S1 & S5) is not even one day.
would you recommend the S2..?
Definitely S2's battery performance is going to be on negative side for sure because its a challenging job for 2000-2100mAh battery to manage four core of a quad-core processor along with 5" display. Thats why canvas HD has a significantly less battery backup as compared to Canvas-2.
Deletehello mr fransis,
ReplyDeleteone direct question.....
Karbonn titanium S2, Micromax canvas2, XoloQ 800
Which handset is prefereble as all are of almost same price
Hello friend
DeleteDirect answer w/o any explanation: XoloQ 800
many thanks
Deleteis micromax canvas music a88 a good buy ?
ReplyDeleteGood but not best. JBL headphones are also provided as a bundle. Sound quality is good in headphones but here also i see one lapse. Cushions of headphone are small and thus are not able to engulf our ears completely. If you can get this phone for 7000 bucks, its not a bad deal. Performance is smooth. Battery takes longer recharge time. But discharge time is a concern. If you are first time android user, I would recommend Samsung Galaxy Ace @ 8000 bucks. All the best.
Deletewhich is the best android smartphone within 9000 bucks ?
ReplyDeleteI would go for Samsung Galaxy Ace
DeleteI have somw problem with my Canvas2 mobile. I have clicked almost 1600 snaps using ma mobile. I tried to transfer the pics my keeping my external SD in a memory card holder.
